Snuff
Nasal snuff is a finely ground, flavoured tobacco, and The Black Horse stocks a variety of flavours produced by Wilson’s of Sharrow, Sheffield, including a tobacco-free white snuff.
Of course snuff is nothing new to a pub with such a long history as The Black Horse, and although we have not managed to uncover any evidence of snuff having previously been on sale on the premises, antique ledgers at Wilsons of Sharrow show that, in 1893, there were six large tobacconists selling good quantities of their loose snuff in Whitby. Thus it is safe to assume that this is by no means the first time that the pub's clientele have enjoyed snuff along with their ale.
Charity Support
The Black Horse is proud to support local charities. Please help us support Whitby and Scarborough Dog Rescue by purchasing one of our Good Dog walk Guides, available for just £1. This has local walks and a list of other dog friendly establishments in the area.
We support Runswick Bay Rescue Boat, an independent lifeboat based in a small village just up the coast.
The Black Horse supports Whitby Lifeboat, the station being just a short walk from the pub. Hand knitted yellow wellies are available to buy from the bar for £2.50 a pair. The biggest boost we've been able to give though, is from our hand made dog bandanas. These are £2.50 each and available in 3 different sizes, and a variety of designs. You can check out our FaceBook page 'RNLI Dog Bandanas' and upload a picture of your dog in its bandana. To date the sale of these items have raised over £25,000 for Whitby Lifeboat, so we thank all of those who have purchased them, or donated material.
