The selection and quality of the real ales has given The Black Horse CAMRA recognition and Cask Marque accreditation. Up to five real ales are available, comprising of regular favourites Adnam's Southwold Bitter, Black Dog Rhatas, Whitby Whaler and Morland Old Golden Hen, joined by guest ales, sourced nationally.
The Black Horse is listed in CAMRA's The Good Beer Guide, and was voted Cleveland CAMRA's pub of the season Spring 2007. In 2008 The Black Horse also won the regional final of the Punch Shine Awards for 'Best Drinks Experience' beating off competition from over 800 pubs in the North East region from Berwick right down to York! In 2014 The Black Horse was voted the Whitby Gazette pub of the year.
In 2016 a craft beer font was installed to allow changing craft keg beers from around the world. These are small batch brews, allowing customers to sample different speciality lagers and ales. A bottled craft selection complements the draught, and contains a gluten free golden ale and a pilsner lager. Belgian favourites Hoegaarden, a cloudy wheat beer, and Leffe Blonde, a strong Abbey beer are also available on tap.
Weston's Rosie's Pig, a flat scrumpy is served alongside our standard cider, Thatcher's Gold. For something different why not have a shot of elderflower cordial in your Thatcher's Gold? A choice of apple and fruit ciders are available in bottles.
Our selection of old and new world wines are available by the bottle or your preferred size of glass. Why not enjoy some Spanish Rioja with your tapas? or try our meal deal of a Yorkshire cheese board and your choice of Italian house red or white wine? If you fancy a treat, we have singe serve bottles of Freixenet Cava, available in either white or rose.
In the last few years, gin has increased in popularity, and The Black Horse is no exception to this. With over a dozen gins to choose from, complemented by the Fever-Tree range of mixers, there's something different to try. Look out of our gin of the week boards. In the summer months enjoy one of our gin cocktails, the Elderflower G&T being the most popular.
